Mohmand SHO Killed in Fitna al-Khawarij Police Attack

Two police personnel, including SHO Zaitullah, were martyred in a late-night Fitna al-Khawarij attack on a patrol vehicle in Mohmand. Funeral prayers were held with state honours as militant violence rises in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PESHAWAR/MOHMAND: Two police personnel, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were martyred in a late-night attack by Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Mohmand district, police said on Friday.

According to a Mohmand police spokesperson, the latest attack by the Indian proxy Fitna al-Khawarij targeted a police patrol vehicle in the district, resulting in the martyrdom of SHO Zaitullah and Elite Force constable Noor Zeb.

"During the cowardly attack by the Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP) terrorists last night, both the men fought bravely and embraced martyrdom," the spokesperson said.

He added that senior police officials attended the funeral prayers for the martyred personnel, who were later laid to rest with full state honours.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, has witnessed a surge in militant violence in recent months, with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups frequently targeting security forces, police personnel and government officials.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of providing support to militant groups, including the TTP, which carry out attacks against its security forces and civilians. The Afghan Taliban have denied the allegations and have urged Pakistan to address its internal security challenges.

Islamabad has also carried out airstrikes inside Afghanistan this year against what it says were militant hideouts and infrastructure in response to attacks in Pakistan's western border regions. The strikes have triggered heightened tensions and clashes between the two neighbouring countries since February.

Meanwhile, the martyred officials were laid to rest with full state honours at the Police Lines in Ghalanai early on Friday.

The funeral prayers were attended by Mohmand District Police Officer (DPO) Raza Mohammad, Mohmand Rifles Commandant Asim Mahmood, Member of the National Assembly Sajid Khan and other senior police and civil administration officials.
