Man shot dead after resisting robbery in RA Bazaar

RAWALPINDI: A man was shot dead after he resisted an alleged robbery near Azhar General Store in the jurisdiction of RA Bazaar Police Station, according to police.

Police said complainant Muhammad Ahmad told investigators that he and his father, Nasir Ahmad, were outside the store when two armed men arrived on a motorcycle and demanded cash and valuables. The shopkeeper handed over Rs5,000 from the cash register, police said.

According to the police account based on the complainant’s statement, the two suspects then turned to Nasir Ahmad and demanded his cash and belongings at gunpoint. Muhammad Ahmad said his father replied that he had nothing to give them. When one of the suspects moved forward, Nasir Ahmad resisted, after which the assailants opened fire.

Police said Nasir Ahmad suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital, where he later died. Investigators have initiated proceedings to add a murder charge to the robbery case, police said.
