Vance says foundation laid for final Iran deal after Switzerland talks

BURGENSTOCK: US Vice President JD Vance said on Monday that discussions with Iran in Switzerland had produced substantial movement and created what he described as a strong base for a final agreement.

Speaking to reporters after the talks at the Burgenstock resort, Vance said US and Iranian officials met alongside mediators from Qatar and Pakistan. He said the discussions delivered progress on several issues, including arrangements aimed at keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and a deconfliction mechanism involving Israel and Lebanon.

According to Vance, the mechanism is meant to ensure communication between the sides when incidents occur and to stop tensions from widening into a larger regional crisis. He also said the talks yielded progress on the nuclear file, including an Iranian commitment to readmit inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Vance said the US, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan had also settled on a structure for continuing the process, with technical-level discussions set to carry on in Burgenstock in the coming days and weeks under political supervision as negotiators work toward a broader settlement.
