SSGC to halt gas supply in parts of Karachi for pipeline work this weekend

KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company will suspend gas supply in several parts of Karachi overnight this weekend to complete final connection work on a high-pressure pipeline associated with the K-IV Project.

In a press release, the utility said the re-routing of a 20-inch diameter high-pressure gas pipeline on University Road, between Nipa Bridge and Essa Nagri DMS near Hassan Square, has already been completed. It said the remaining hook-up work is scheduled for the night between June 20 and 21 and will require a planned shutdown.

According to the company, supply will remain cut from 10pm on Saturday until 10am on Sunday. SSGC said all blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal would be affected during the operation.

The utility added that temporary nighttime disruptions could also be felt at Karachi Central Prison, Aga Khan University Hospital, Liaquat National Hospital and Medicare Hospital. It said efforts would be made to finish the work within the announced timeframe and restore supply as early as possible, while also expressing regret for the inconvenience to consumers.
