LONDON: British transport police said on Friday they were responding to reports of a collision involving two trains in the Bedford area, north of London, as emergency services attended the scene.
The British Transport Police said on X that the incident involved two trains near the market town, which is about 56 miles, or 90 kilometres, north of the capital. East Midlands Railway also said emergency services were dealing with an incident on the route between London St Pancras and Leicester, but did not give further details.
Images circulating on social media appeared to show two East Midlands Railway trains after an impact, with one train having run into the other. The footage, which was not verified, also showed passengers on the tracks next to damaged carriages. Based on those images, the trains appeared to have remained upright.
The East of England Ambulance Service said on social media that it had deployed a number of resources, including air ambulances, to the scene amid media reports of injuries.
