ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has called for what he described as a full, impartial and transparent investigation into an alleged phone call linked to the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), saying the matter was of serious concern.
In a post on X, Chaudhry said several pieces of evidence relating to the proscribed group had already come to light, and added that the alleged call had further revealed what he termed the committee’s real face. He said the group’s claim of arranging a peaceful protest did not match references in the conversation, particularly the mention of 500 riflemen, and said the issue required urgent examination by the relevant institutions.
The minister also said anti-state conspiracies would be pursued under the law and that action would be taken against those found responsible.
Separately, police registered a case against Imran Sheikh, a resident of Mirpur, on allegations of making hateful and derogatory remarks against state institutions. According to the FIR, he delivered inflammatory and offensive speeches targeting state institutions during a public gathering in the United Kingdom.
