BEIRUT: Hezbollah said on Friday that its fighters had clashed with Israeli forces advancing near the southern Lebanese town of Majdal Zoun, while Israeli strikes continued across southern Lebanon.
In a statement, the group said it first targeted Israeli troops moving toward Majdal Zoun on Thursday evening with repeated rocket fire and said the attack forced them to pull back. Hezbollah later said its fighters confronted an advancing force in the same area on Friday using light and medium weapons as well as rockets.
Majdal Zoun lies about five kilometres from the western side of the border, according to the statement. Hezbollah also said it had carried out other attacks on Israeli troops in southern Lebanon, though no further details were given.
The Israeli military, meanwhile, issued evacuation warnings for three villages in southern Lebanon. Lebanon's state-run National News Agency also reported a number of strikes across the south, including in areas that were not covered by the Israeli warning.
