CM Maryam says albinism reflects natural diversity, vows inclusive Punjab
  • Punjab CM says persons with albinism represent human beauty, not weakness

  • Calls for dignity, protection and equal opportunities for all, urging end to discrimination based on appearance or skin colour

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday said that albinism is not a weakness but a natural expression of human diversity, adding that persons with albinism represent an important facet of human beauty and that ensuring their dignity and protection is a collective social responsibility.

In her message on the occasion of International Albinism Awareness Day, the chief minister said Punjab envisions a society where no individual is judged or considered inferior on the basis of skin colour, physical appearance or any congenital difference. She stressed the need to further promote a culture of love, respect and acceptance for persons living with albinism.

Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government was actively working to provide comprehensive education and healthcare facilities to persons with albinism, alongside other specially-abled individuals. She underscored the importance of safeguarding their rights and called for collective efforts to eliminate all forms of discrimination against them.

She further said ensuring dignity, protection and equal opportunities for persons with albinism was a social obligation. The government’s goal, she added, was to build a Punjab where no person faces discrimination on the basis of skin colour, physical appearance or inherited characteristics.

The chief minister said persons with albinism require special attention in healthcare, education and social protection, while efforts must also be made to address the social isolation they often face.

She noted that International Albinism Awareness Day is observed to raise awareness about this inherited genetic condition and to promote and protect the rights of persons affected by it.

CM commends security forces for successful North Waziristan operation

Separately, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz commended the security forces for eliminating 48 terrorists during an operation in various areas of North Waziristan.

She paid tribute to the security forces for the successful operation and lauded their courage, professionalism, and commitment to safeguarding the country.

Reiterating the government’s stance, she said the resolve to completely eradicate terrorism remains unwavering, adding that the fight against militancy would continue until lasting peace is restored and the menace is fully eliminated.

“The determination to eliminate terrorism in all its forms is unshakable, and the war against terrorism will continue,” she said.
