KARACHI: Dr Mahnoor, the doctor injured in an acid attack in Quetta, has undergone her first surgical procedure at a private hospital in Karachi, according to hospital sources cited on Tuesday.
Family members said doctors removed dead skin from the affected areas during the operation. They added that her condition had improved after the procedure, although the danger of infection remains because of the seriousness of her burns. As a precaution, she has been kept in isolation.
Medical sources said her treatment is being carried out in stages, including the removal of damaged tissue and skin grafting. The first procedure lasted more than eight hours and involved minor grafting on her face. They said no major surgery has yet been performed.
A team comprising plastic surgeons and ophthalmologists is monitoring her condition, and additional procedures will be performed if needed. Sources also said Dr Mahnoor has undergone a third detailed medical assessment, with multiple tests conducted. Meanwhile, the governments of Balochistan and Sindh remain in contact with her family and are overseeing the treatment process.
