Quetta acid attack victim moved to Karachi

KARACHI: Dr Mahnoor, the woman doctor injured in an acid attack at Civil Hospital Quetta, has been shifted to a private hospital in Karachi for further treatment, according to hospital sources.

Sources said she was flown to Karachi by air ambulance after the June 5 attack and underwent a detailed medical examination at Aga Khan University Hospital on Sunday. While the hospital has not issued an official medical bulletin on her condition, sources said about 13 per cent of her body suffered acid burns.

According to the same sources, the injuries include burns to her face, abdomen, thighs and right hand. Plastic surgeons and eye specialists have completed their initial assessment. Both of her eyes were affected in the attack, but doctors said her eyesight remains intact.

Hospital sources said Dr Mahnoor has been shifted to the Special Care Unit, where she is being closely monitored. A follow-up medical assessment has been scheduled after 24 hours. They described her overall condition as satisfactory.

Meanwhile, Sindh government spokesperson and Sindh Assembly member Saadia Javed visited the hospital on the directives of Faryal Talpur to inquire after Dr Mahnoor’s health. During the visit, she conveyed wishes for her early recovery and expressed solidarity and support on behalf of Faryal Talpur.

Separately, a young man who tried to rescue Dr Mahnoor during the attack was also injured and is under treatment in Quetta. The Balochistan chief minister contacted him to ask about his condition and praised his courage.

Police officials said the suspect allegedly involved in the attack was killed on Saturday night during a police encounter. Authorities have not released further details about the motive, and the investigation is continuing.
