QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has directed authorities to carry out an immediate and transparent inquiry into the deaths of six members of a family in Quetta’s Wahdat Colony, an incident that has triggered widespread concern across the province.
The provincial government has also suspended all officials linked to the case until the investigation is completed. A formal notification has been issued, and the relevant authorities have been told to begin a detailed fact-finding exercise.
Preliminary police findings said a man identified as Asif Ali allegedly shot his wife and four children inside their home before apparently taking his own life. The incident left six people dead and shocked residents of the area.
Police said the bodies were shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examinations, while legal formalities were initiated. Investigators have also started collecting forensic material and taking statements from witnesses to establish the circumstances surrounding the case.
Government orders detailed probe
Chief Minister Bugti instructed the departments concerned to ensure that the inquiry is conducted professionally and without bias, stressing that every aspect of the case should be examined in full. He also sought a detailed report at the earliest opportunity.
Government spokesperson Shahid Rind said the provincial administration was handling the matter with serious attention and was committed to keeping the investigation transparent and credible. He said all available resources were being used to determine the facts.
Rind further said accountability would be enforced wherever required and that no person or institution would be beyond scrutiny during the inquiry process.
Authorities said investigators were reviewing multiple dimensions of the case as they attempt to determine the motive and sequence of events behind one of the most devastating family-related incidents in Quetta in recent years. The findings of the inquiry will be made public once the process is complete.
