Student killed, 20 injured in Swat school bus crash

SWAT: A girl student was killed and 20 others were injured when a school bus met with an accident in the Darmai Landi Cham area of Swat on Tuesday, according to an initial police report.

Police said the bus apparently suffered brake failure before overturning. More than 40 female students were on board and were on their way to school when the incident took place.

Rescue officials identified the deceased student as Hoorain, daughter of Khurshid, a resident of Landi Cham. The injured students were shifted by emergency responders to nearby hospitals for treatment, while officials said the injuries ranged in severity.

The accident also left three women pedestrians injured after the bus went out of control and struck them. Witnesses said the vehicle became uncontrollable and went off the road, causing multiple injuries. Authorities are examining the cause of the accident as well as the fitness condition of the school bus.
