China stands firm as pillar of stability in fluid world: Wang Yi

BEIJING: No matter how the international landscape may change, as a responsible major country, China will always maintain the continuity and consistency of its major policies and stand firm as a pillar of stability in a fluid world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when delivering a speech at the 60th Munich Security Conference.

Speaking of China’s relations with other major countries, Wang said that China will work with the United States to implement the consensus of the two heads of state to promote bilateral ties along the right track of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.

Wang pointed out that the stable development of the China-Russia relationship is conducive to the strategic stability in the Asia-Pacific region as well as in the whole world.

China is willing to be a stabilizing force in dealing with hotspot issues, Wang said. He pointed out that China has unswervingly called for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel and has been doing its utmost to protect civilians who are suffering in the new round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

In terms of the Ukraine crisis, Wang said China has never stopped promoting peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Noting China has a vast territory with a large number of neighboring countries and complex conflicts inherited from history, the Chinese top diplomat said that China has always insisted on managing differences and resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation.

Wang noted that China is willing to work with ASEAN to advance the consultations on a code of conduct in the South China Sea at a faster pace, and promote maritime cooperation and joint development.
