Punjab govt to engage firms for achieving carbon credits

LAHORE: In order to increase forestation and achieve carbon credits, Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Monday decided to hire the services of consultant firms of good repute.

The decision was taken at a special meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister (Syed Mohsin Naqvi in Lahore.

The meeting was briefed that carbon credits could be achieved from 10 sectors, including waste, transport, energy, industries and land use.

It was informed that credits could be achieved by protecting forests and removing the causes of environmental pollution.

The meeting was told that the largest carbon dioxide emitting countries invested in forestation as well as in environmental protection.

Furthermore, it was informed that there was a special procedure for awarding credits to those countries which controlled the release of carbon dioxide and produced oxygen in its place instead.

Similarly, the credits were purchased and sold through volunteer carbon market, the meeting was briefed.
