First case registered in Sindh for dumping of unclaimed newborn bodies

KARACHI: After directives from the head of Sindh police, a first case has been registered against unidentified suspects involved in dumping newborn babies’ dead bodies.

The police issued strict orders for mandatory registration of First Information Reports (FIRs) and medical examinations of all unclaimed bodies of newborn babies across the province.

Following the directives by Ghulam Nabi Memon, the inspector general of provincial police, a case has been filed at Ittehad Town police station against unidentified suspects. The body of a newborn baby was discovered in a garbage dump in the Ittehad Town area of the metropolis.

The FIR has been registered against unidentified suspects, including those involved in the abortion of fetuses.

At the Civil Hospital in Karachi, three samples, including postmortem and DNA, have been preserved for further investigation. The report will contribute to the ongoing investigation into the matter.

Previously, Memon took note of the police negligence in handling the legal process concerning the recovery of unclaimed dead bodies of newborn babies. These bodies had been secretly disposed of by unknown culprits in street garbage sites and unattended areas.
