MQM leader Ghauri returns from Dubai

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Babar Ghauri and his wife arrived in Karachi from Dubai on Tuesday, after securing protective bail in two cases from the Sindh High Court (SHC).

The court granted bail till February 6, with surety bonds worth Rs200,000.

Last year, Ghauri was acquitted in a case related to facilitating a provocative speech of London-based party founder Altaf Hussain in 2015. He was charged with hate speech but was declared innocent due to a lack of evidence.

Ghauri was taken into custody upon his arrival in Karachi on July 4 over allegations of corruption and terrorism, and was moved to an undisclosed location.

He and others are facing charges of corruption worth Rs2.8 billion in the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) during his tenure as federal minister for ports and shipping from 2008 to 2013.
