JI urges COAS to provide Gulshan-e-Mehran allottees with justice

KARACHI: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has sought Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Jawed Bajwa intervention to protect the rights of thousands of allottees in Gulshan-e-Mehran.

He claimed that thousands of allottees in Gulshan-e-Mehran have long been deprived of their right to build their houses on their lawful leased plots.

He said the allottees have been awaiting to build their houses for over 50 years now but the Malir Cantonment Board (MCB) despite repeated court orders and warning by Sindh High Court, is not approving the layout plan of society and maps of houses so that allottees could build their houses.

He said the Sindh High Court should now take strict action of contempt of court since Malir Cantonment Board pays no heed to repeated warnings of contempt proceedings in case of non-implementation of court rulings in favor of allottees of Gulshan-e-Mehran.

The allottees of Gulshan-e-Mehran Housing Society held a protest rally against Malir Cantonment Board (MCB) for non-implementing the categorical orders of Sindh High Court and denying the allottees construction rights on their properties despite lapse of 50 years.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and Chairman Action Committee Gulshan-e-Mehran, Taufiquddin Siddiqui, Jamaat-e-Islami Airport District chief led, the rally from Super Highway to Tank Chowk via Jinnah Avenue. A large number of allottees along with their families joined the protest.

Hafiz Naeem appealed to the Army Chief and DG Military Lands to take notice of this injustice by the MCB. He also appealed to Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan to take action on non-implementation of several court orders by Malir Cantonment Board.

Speaking on the occasion, Sultan Qamar said that if the MCB did not allow the allottees to build houses, they would have no other option but to file another petition in Sindh High Court.

We are over 12 thousand allottees who have all constitutional rights like other citizens but we are treated like aliens or illegal immigrants. We can’t build houses on our leased plots just because the MCB doesn’t care for rules, laws or even court rulings.

He said that sector 3 of Gulshan-e-Mehran is under litigation because PAF has laid its claim on our leased plots. Sector 4 has B, C and D categories illegally encroached by the so-called Goths Mafia who are occupying our leased plots.

There is absolute chaos in our society where there is no respect for citizens and their rights.

The owners in Gulshan-e-Mehran haven’t been handed over the possession of their properties despite lapse of 50 years. The Action Committee approached Sindh High Court, which ruled in favor of the plot owners. However, the MCB has not honoured the court orders.

Taufiquddin Siddiqui said the second generation of original allottees had grown up and yet they were denied their rightful possession.

Gulshan-e-Mehran, Scheme 33, was established in 1970. Employees were working in various government institutions were allotted the plots for which they had to make some payments.

The rightful owners of the plots have been fighting for the possession and construction rights on their plots for 50 years.
