Younis appointed Afghanistan’s batting coach

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Saturday announced former Pakistan captain Younis Khan as their batting coach for their upcoming UAE tour, according to a news outlet.

Earlier, Umar Gul was announced as Afghanistan’s bowling coach for the same tour as well.

Younis and Gul are expected to join the team during the ongoing training and preparatory camp in the UAE as the team gear up for its forthcoming international cricketing assignments.

“The UAE camp is a great opportunity for the players to get adequate training in the relevant departments of the game and get fully prepared for future competitions. Younis Khan and Umar Gul have rich experience of international cricket and I am sure they will help our boys overcome the concerns they have got in the batting and bowling departments” ACB CEO Naseeb Khan said in a statement.

Afghanistan national cricket team left Kabul for the UAE on March 31 with the aim of gaining UAE residency as well as featuring in a preparatory camp to gear up for the upcoming international events.

It is pertinent to mention that the ACB had named former England batter Graham Thorpe as their head coach, who is expected to join the team at the end of April.
