PTI chief raises concern over reports of Imran Khan hospitalisation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Barrister Gohar Khan on Wednesday expressed grave concern over reports that party founder Imran Khan was recently taken to a hospital in Islamabad and later returned to jail, saying the development had caused serious anxiety within the party and his family.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside party leaders, Barrister Gohar said reports of Khan’s hospital visit had emerged without any official briefing to the party or family members. He said neither had been informed about the nature of Khan’s illness, adding that the lack of clarity had heightened concern.

He demanded that a meeting with the PTI founder be arranged immediately, saying if it was not possible today, it should be allowed at least by tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, local media reported that Khan had been taken under tight security to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on Saturday for a medical procedure and was returned to Adiala jail the following day. The report, citing a hospital doctor, said the former prime minister underwent a procedure related to an eye condition.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had earlier cited what it described as credible media reports claiming that Khan had been diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion in his right eye, warning that the condition could pose a serious risk to his eyesight if not treated properly.

However, Khan’s sister Noreen Khan rejected these claims, saying he had no eye-related issue and was in good health. She alleged that false information was being circulated deliberately to create confusion.

Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and faces multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism-related charges, following his removal from office through a no-trust motion in April 2022.

Barrister Gohar also criticised the continued denial of access to the PTI founder, saying the last meeting with Khan took place on December 20 last year. He added that a petition seeking permission to meet him had been filed but no approval had been granted so far.
