ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is yet to decide whether a holiday will be announced for Shab-e-Barat 2026, with no official notification issued so far by either the federal or provincial governments.
Last year, the Sindh Government declared a holiday for educational institutions across the province on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat. Schools and colleges remained closed, allowing students and staff to observe the religious night. The decision, however, was limited to the education sector and did not apply to government offices or the private sector nationwide.
As Shab-e-Barat approaches this year, uncertainty remains, particularly in Sindh, where parents and educators are once again waiting for clarity. The occasion is not listed as a gazetted public holiday in the federal government’s annual holiday calendar, meaning any closure would require a separate provincial notification.
Officials familiar with past practice say a holiday announcement is still possible, noting that similar decisions in previous years were often made only a few days before the event, following moon sighting confirmation and internal approvals.
Shab-e-Barat, observed on the 15th night of Sha’ban, is widely marked across Pakistan with prayers, graveyard visits, and religious gatherings. Despite its significance, it has traditionally been treated as an optional or sector-specific holiday rather than a nationwide public holiday.
Until an official announcement is made, schools, offices, and businesses are expected to continue with normal operations.
Earlier it was an optional holiday given in our office comes under federal govt then a person from outside the country and company came as MD in our company cancelled this optional holiday but he himself taking all n all facilities this is justice in pakistan
Shab e baraat and shab e qadr holiday must be given as its our EBADAT KI RAAT.
