Germany introduces online system for family reunion visas for Pakistanis

Germany has introduced a new online facility for family reunion visas for Pakistani nationals, enabling applicants to submit their applications digitally through the newly launched Consular Services Portal.

The German Embassy in Pakistan formally announced the launch of the portal, describing it as a step aimed at streamlining and modernising the family reunification visa process.

In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, the embassy said applicants are now required to submit their family reunion visa applications through the Consular Services Portal, replacing the earlier manual submission procedure.

The embassy explained that the portal allows for preliminary scrutiny of applications to ensure documents are complete and accurate before applicants visit the embassy for biometric data collection and interviews. This advance review is intended to reduce delays and improve efficiency during in-person appointments.

Officials clarified that there has been no change to the documentation requirements. The list of basic documents for a family reunion visa remains unchanged, though applicants have been advised to carefully review the guide provided on the portal to ensure correct uploading of documents.

The embassy also noted that applicants whose spouses or close family members reside in Germany and hold a European Union passport will continue to register through the existing waiting list system rather than the new portal. Under the freedom of movement rules, such applicants will continue to receive expedited appointments.

It was further emphasised that incomplete applications will not be processed and that submitting an application with missing or inaccurate information will not result in an earlier appointment.

Under the new system, applicants will benefit from an initial online assessment of their applications, helping save time during embassy visits. The portal also allows applicants to track the status of their visa applications online.
