Will Punjab give another extension in winter holidays?

LAHORE: The Punjab government has confirmed that winter vacations for schools will not be extended again, ending speculation among parents and students after a one-week extension due to severe cold weather.

Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Hayat said all public and private schools across the province will reopen on January 19, adding that no further changes to the schedule are under consideration.

He said winter holidays began on December 20 and were planned for a total of 30 days. According to the minister, students have already availed 27 days of leave and will resume classes once the remaining holidays conclude.

The minister said the education department will move ahead with the academic calendar as planned and advised parents and students to prepare for the return to school.

Winter vacations were earlier extended after an intense cold spell affected several parts of Punjab, triggering uncertainty over a possible further delay. The latest statement has clarified the situation, confirming that schools will reopen on January 19 as scheduled.

  2. Cold weather is still severe across Punjab and many children can easily get sick. An extension in winter holidays till January 26 is needed. I request the Education Minister to please consider this, keeping children’s health as the top priority.
