Pakistan, Uzbekistan vow to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD: The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, held an important meeting on Thursday with the Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Mr. Shahrukh Ghulamov, at the Ministry of Industries and Production, Islamabad, to further deepen bilateral economic relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan warmly welcomed the Uzbek Deputy Minister and his delegation, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Uzbekistan in trade, investment, and industrial development. The meeting reviewed the rapidly expanding diplomatic, economic, and commercial ties between the two countries and explored new avenues for mutually beneficial collaboration.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan said that Pakistan–Uzbekistan relations are growing stronger and broader, reflecting the shared vision of both leaderships for regional connectivity and prosperity. He highlighted the prime minister’s vision to raise bilateral trade to US$2 billion, emphasizing that enhanced regional connectivity will play a vital role in achieving this target.

Both sides stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in trade, investment, industry, and tourism and agreed to accelerate joint initiatives that would contribute to sustainable economic growth in both countries. Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan also informed the delegation that, on the directions of the Prime Minister, committees for Pakistan–Uzbekistan joint ventures have been activated, and progress on various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) is moving forward at a fast pace.

The Uzbek Deputy Minister, Mr. Shahrukh Ghulamov, expressed confidence in Pakistan as a friendly and reliable partner, stating that Uzbekistan seeks mutual benefit, shared development, and long-term partnership with Pakistan. He added that a strong Pakistan–Uzbekistan partnership will contribute to regional stability and prosperity.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan hosted a luncheon in honor of the Uzbek delegation, underscoring the warmth and goodwill that characterize relations between the two countries.
