ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to organise Kyrgyz Cultural Day in Islamabad later this year, aiming to strengthen cultural diplomacy and promote people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
The decision was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi and Kyrgyz Ambassador to Pakistan Kylychbek Sultan, who met at the National Heritage and Culture Division on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the minister referred to the recent interaction between Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov and Prime Minister of Pakistan, in which both leaders underlined the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in cultural and public exchanges.
The ambassador was informed that, in line with directives from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kyrgyz Cultural Day is tentatively scheduled for the last week of March 2026 in Islamabad.
Officials said the one- to two-day event will feature Kyrgyz handicrafts, traditional food, national attire, art and photography exhibitions, film screenings, and live music and dance performances, offering the Pakistani public an opportunity to experience Kyrgyz culture. Pakistan will arrange local hospitality for the visiting delegation.
The meeting also noted Pakistan’s plans to host Nowruz celebrations, to which Kyrgyzstan and other countries maintaining diplomatic relations with Pakistan will be invited.
Ambassador Kylychbek Sultan said he would consult his government and confirm participation by the end of the month to ensure timely preparations. He also shared that the Kyrgyz delegation intends to visit Lahore, with the minister suggesting that additional cultural engagements could be organised there following the Islamabad event.
It was further agreed that Samreen Zahara, Joint Secretary at the National Heritage and Culture Division, would serve as the focal person from the Pakistani side, while Kyrgyzstan would nominate its own focal person. The ambassador was also requested to coordinate with the Kyrgyz Honorary Consul General in Lahore.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening cultural cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations.
