Poor weather grounds flights, forces diversions at major airports

LAHORE: Flight operations across Pakistan were disrupted on Tuesday due to adverse weather conditions, resulting in multiple cancellations, delays and diversions on domestic and international routes, aviation officials said.

According to the latest flight schedule, eight flights were cancelled while at least 53 arrivals and departures were delayed at airports across the country due to low visibility and unfavourable weather.

Lahore Airport was among the worst affected, where deteriorating conditions forced four incoming flights to divert to Islamabad. Several international flights, including services from Jeddah, Abu Dhabi and Najaf bound for Lahore, were also redirected to the federal capital.

National airline flights operating between Islamabad and Gilgit were cancelled, while two international flights from Abu Dhabi to Lahore and two domestic flights from Islamabad to Sukkur were also called off due to weather-related constraints.

Islamabad and Karachi airports each reported delays to around 14 arrivals and departures, while Lahore recorded 12 delayed flights. Peshawar Airport faced delays to eight flights, whereas Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad airports reported disruptions to two flights each.

Airport authorities said safety protocols were strictly followed, adding that flight schedules may continue to be affected if weather conditions do not improve. Airlines have advised passengers to check flight status before heading to airports and remain in contact with airline helplines for updates.

Officials warned that continued fog and reduced visibility could lead to further delays and diversions, urging travellers to plan their journeys accordingly.
