Neighbour demands Rs 3 million ransom for child’s release

PESHAWAR: Khazana Police in Peshawar have arrested a man accused of kidnapping his neighbour’s seven-year-old child for ransom. The police also successfully recovered the child unharmed.

According to police officials, the suspect, a neighbour of a local cloth trader, demanded a ransom of Rs 3 million for the child’s release. During the arrest, authorities recovered a weapon, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone from the suspect’s possession.

Meanwhile, in Karachi, two housemaids are suspected of stealing more than 115 tola of gold jewellery from two houses within days. The thefts, which occurred in Mohammad Ali Society and Bahadurabad, have been described as among the largest domestic thefts reported in the city in 2026.

In the Mohammad Ali Society case, over 100 tola of gold, valued at more than Rs 45 million, was stolen. The housemaids, identified as Nadia and Dilshad, had only been employed the day before, having been hired on the guarantee of the building’s security guard.

According to the affected family, the housemaids left the home as usual while the family visited relatives. Upon returning, they discovered the wardrobe locks broken, and jewellery boxes were scattered on the floor, with gold items missing. CCTV footage showing the maids fleeing after the theft has been handed over to the police.

Police investigations later linked the same two women to a similar theft in Bahadurabad, where 15 tola of gold was stolen on January 5. The total value of the stolen gold across both incidents is estimated to exceed Rs 60 million. Police have initiated a search operation to apprehend the suspects.
