NHA seeks contractor bids for final north-south M6 Motorway link

ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has opened prequalification for contractors to work on two critical sections of the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M-6), a central part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the final segment in the country’s north-south motorway network.

The prequalification covers Section 4, running from Naushehro Feroz to Ranipur (60.90 km), and Section 5, from Ranipur to Sukkur (59.88 km), both designed as six-lane highways. Interested firms must submit applications by January 26, 2026, and bidding is expected to commence in March 2026.

The M-6 Motorway project is being financed in part through the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), with contractor selection following IsDB procurement guidelines to ensure transparency and international standards. Prequalification is open to firms from eligible source countries as defined by the bank.

Completion of the 306-kilometer Hyderabad-Sukkur stretch will fill the last gap in Pakistan’s north-south motorway chain, significantly reducing travel time across Sindh and facilitating faster freight movement between Gwadar Port, Karachi Port, and inland industrial hubs.

The M-6 is considered a critical component of CPEC’s transport infrastructure, aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s position as a regional trade and transit corridor connecting South Asia, Central Asia, and western China. Officials said the motorway will not only enhance logistics efficiency but also spur regional economic development.
