Kohat police foil grenade attack

KOHAT: A grenade attack on a mosque was foiled in Kohat as police arrested three suspects involved in the attack and recovered the weapons used in the crime.

According to police, unidentified assailants hurled a grenade at the Abdullah bin Fahad Mosque in the Nusrat Khail area on November 30 and also opened fire at a nearby house. The Cantonment police reached the scene promptly and registered a case on the complaint of the affected homeowner, identified as Mir.

Taking strict notice of the incident, District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi ordered the immediate arrest of those involved and constituted a special investigation team under the supervision of DSP City Ejaz Ali, with SHO Cantonment Khizar Fareed and SHO City Jabar Khan as members.

Using modern investigation methods, data analysis and ground intelligence, the police conducted multiple raids at different locations and arrested three suspects identified as Latif, Umar and Abdul Muaz, all residents of Nusrat Khail.

Police also recovered the weapons used in the attack, while further investigation into the incident is underway.

Addressing a press conference, DSP City Ejaz Ali said the police had traced and solved a difficult case within a short time and brought dangerous suspects to justice.

DPO Shehbaz Elahi reiterated that ensuring the safety of citizens and protection of life and property was the top priority of the police, adding that no one would be allowed to sabotage peace and security in the area.

In a separate operation, Jarma Police also foiled a narcotics smuggling attempt during a checkpoint operation conducted on the directives of the DPO. SHO Jarma Umar Khaliq Khan and his team intercepted a suspect identified as Obaid, a resident of Mardan, and recovered 12 kilograms of hashish from his possession.

A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is in progress.
