Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil named federal information secretary

ISLAMABAD: Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil has been appointed as the new Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced on Monday.

The appointment, approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, followed a competitive selection process that evaluated several senior officers, including Tariq Khan, Arshad Munir, Imrana Wazir, and Saeed Ahmed Sheikh.

Khalil, previously serving as Additional Secretary at the ministry, brings decades of experience in media and government communications.

His career highlights include tenure as Director General of the Press Information Department in Peshawar, Press Counsellor at Pakistan’s embassy in Tokyo, and senior roles at PEMRA, the Information Service Academy, and the Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications.

The ministry said Khalil’s leadership is expected to ensure administrative continuity and strengthen coordination across government departments.

Officials also noted that his appointment will support policy consistency while enhancing the effectiveness of government communications and public information management.
