Talha Anjum criticized for waving Indian flag during performance

Rapper Talha Anjum is facing significant backlash after an incident in which he waved the Indian flag during a performance in Nepal.

The controversial moment occurred while Anjum was performing his song “Kaun Talha” when an audience member threw the Indian tricolour onto the stage. Instead of ignoring or setting it aside, the Young Stunners artist caught the flag, waved it around, and ultimately wrapped it around himself. The incident was captured by fans and quickly went viral, sparking outrage on social media.

Many critics argued that Anjum’s actions were inappropriate, insensitive, and unnecessary, particularly given the tense relationship between India and Pakistan. They questioned why a Pakistani artist would choose to display the Indian flag in such a public manner, especially amidst the ongoing hostilities between the two nations.

In response to the backlash, Talha Anjum defended his actions, stating that he would do it again and emphasizing his belief that art should have no borders. His comments, however, only intensified the criticism, with many accusing him of disregarding the political context and public sentiment surrounding the matter.

“My heart has no place for hate. My art has no borders. If me raising an Indian flag sparks controversy so be it. I’ll do it again… will never care about the media, the warmongering governments and their propaganda. Urdu Rap is and will always be borderless,” Anjum tweeted on November 16, 2025.

It’s important to note that since the conflict in May, Indian platforms have banned Pakistani content, and several Pakistani celebrities have had their accounts blocked in India. In the 2025 Asia Cup, Indian players notably avoided shaking hands with their Pakistani counterparts and even refused to accept the tournament trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
