ISLAMABAD: Several major constitutional and statutory judicial bodies — including the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) and the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Committee — have been reconstituted following the enforcement of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
Under the revised framework, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, the second most senior judge of the Supreme Court, has been jointly nominated to the Supreme Judicial Council by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court. His nomination is in line with Clause 2(iiia) of Article 175A of the Constitution.
Similarly, Justice Aamer Farooq, the next most senior judge of the Federal Constitutional Court, has been jointly nominated by the two chief justices to serve on the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, as stipulated under Clause 2(d) of Article 209.
In addition, the Chief Justice of Pakistan has named Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail as a member of the committee formed under Section 2 of the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act, 2023.
Officials said the reconstituted bodies will continue to play a pivotal role in judicial appointments, accountability mechanisms, and procedural oversight in alignment with the amended constitutional structure.
