Zardari hails ISC as key platform for global parliamentary cooperation

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday described the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC) as a key platform for global parliamentary cooperation, emphasizing that the gathering had fostered dialogue, built friendships, and opened new avenues for collaboration among legislatures worldwide.

Addressing a dinner hosted at Aiwan-e-Sadr in honour of the delegates, the president said the conference had encouraged constructive debate and strengthened the spirit of parliamentary diplomacy. “Over the past three days, parliamentarians from more than 40 countries have shown how dialogue and mutual respect can advance peace, development, and stability,” he added.

President Zardari highlighted that today’s global challenges, whether economic, environmental, or security-related, demand collective action. He praised the leadership of Senate Chairman and Founding Chairman of the ISC, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, for shaping the conference into an effective forum for inter-parliamentary engagement.

Senate Chairman Gilani, in his remarks, thanked the president for hosting the delegates and underscored the historic nature of the gathering, noting that the adoption of the Islamabad Communique provides a shared blueprint for peace, security, and inclusive growth.

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, and federal ministers also attended the occasion, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to fostering international cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy.
