PTI announces NA walkout as Nawaz Sharif set to vote for 27th Amendment

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday announced that his party would stage a walkout and protest against the 27th Constitutional Amendment during the National Assembly session.

Speaking to the media, Barrister Gohar said, “We have already announced that we will not be part of this amendment. We will walk out, protest, and deliver speeches against it.” He reiterated that opposition parties would formally register their dissent over the sweeping constitutional changes.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to attend the National Assembly session to vote in favor of the amendment. Sources said the three-time former prime minister will also visit the Prime Minister’s House and later call on his close friend Irfan Siddiqui to offer condolences to the bereaved family.

The amendment, presented on Tuesday by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, passed the Senate with a two-thirds majority. In the lower house, the ruling coalition has secured 237 votes in support, exceeding the 224 votes required for approval under the Constitution.

Barrister Gohar dismissed the political relevance of Nawaz Sharif in Parliament, saying that the former prime minister’s return did not attract the red-carpet reception he might have expected.
