Sindh CM orders swift completion of federal and ADB-backed road projects

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed provincial departments to expedite work on major federal, provincial, and foreign-assisted road projects to ensure their timely completion, stressing that road infrastructure is central to Sindh’s economic growth.

Chairing a high-level meeting on the province’s development portfolio, the chief minister reviewed progress under the Federal PSDP 2025–26, Sindh ADP 2025–26, and the ADB-assisted Flood Emergency Reconstruction Project. The meeting was attended by Provincial Ministers Jam Khan Shoro and Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Chairman Planning and Development Najam Shah, and senior officials.

“The people of Sindh must see tangible progress on the ground. Our focus is on projects that directly benefit the public and strengthen regional connectivity,” Murad Ali Shah said.

Among the projects reviewed was the Sindh Coastal Highway (36 km), a Rs3.7 billion scheme with a Rs2.6 billion federal and Rs1 billion provincial share, which the CM described as a “strategic lifeline” for coastal development and directed to be completed by June 2027.

He also called for accelerated work on the Rohri–Guddu Barrage Road (105 km), a Rs17.79 billion project linking upper Sindh with southern Punjab, and ordered its completion by the same deadline.

For the Tando Allahyar–Tando Adam dualisation project (31.4 km) worth Rs9.28 billion, the CM instructed the immediate release of Sindh’s Rs2.59 billion share to speed up progress.

Reviewing the Mehran Highway (Nawabshah–Ranipur, 135 km) — a Rs41.03 billion corridor crucial for intra-provincial trade — the chief minister emphasised completion by June 2027.

He also noted the importance of the Sanghar–Rohri road via Mudh Jamrao and Salehput (221 km), valued at Rs35.08 billion, saying it would “open new opportunities for rural communities and boost agricultural trade.”

The meeting further assessed the ADB-assisted Sindh Flood Emergency Reconstruction Project (EFAP) — a Rs48.4 billion initiative covering 724 km of flood-damaged roads approved by ECNEC in December 2022 and launched in January 2024.
