ISLAMABAD: Türkiye’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya met with Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to discuss areas of counterterrorism, anti-narcotics operations, human trafficking prevention, border security, cybercrime, coast guard collaboration, and police cooperation.
Yerlikaya was warmly received at the Ministry of Interior, where both leaders held one-on-one and delegation-level talks.
Both countries agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to further institutionalize cooperation between their interior ministries. It was decided that the group will meet four times a year to review progress.
The two ministers also resolved to expand joint efforts in counterterrorism. Minister Naqvi remarked that “Pakistan’s security is inseparable from Türkiye’s security.”
Minister Yerlikaya praised Pakistan’s active role in combating terrorism and narcotics. The two sides also agreed to strengthen collaboration in immigration control and anti-human trafficking measures.
Naqvi highlighted that human trafficking and illegal immigration are global challenges requiring collective action. He announced Pakistan’s full support for Türkiye in the upcoming Interpol elections and pledged to further enhance anti-narcotics cooperation.
He added that despite limited resources, Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force has performed commendably, noting that in the past five years, not a single drug trafficking case from Pakistan to Türkiye was reported.
The meeting also covered expanded police training cooperation and the exchange of expertise between both countries across various sectors.
Yerlikaya emphasized Türkiye’s strong fraternal ties with Pakistan and its desire to deepen cooperation in all fields, adding that the creation of the Joint Working Group will strengthen bilateral relations.
He expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s hospitality, while several senior officials—including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Federal Secretary of Interior, heads of ANF, FIA, NACTA, and Islamabad Police—were present at the meeting.
