Rangers arrest key Lyari gang operative linked to Wasiullah Lakho network

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers have arrested a key operative of the Wasiullah Lakho gang during an intelligence-based raid in Lyari, recovering arms and ammunition from his possession, the paramilitary force said on Friday.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspect, identified as Mohammad Ismail alias Tamba, was a most-wanted criminal involved in targeted killings, robberies, and extortion.

The spokesperson said the accused had joined the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London faction in 2005 before becoming an active member of the Lyari gang war. During interrogation, Ismail allegedly confessed to involvement in ethnic killings and over 50 cases of street crime and robberies across Karachi.

He also revealed his association with notorious gang figures, including Wasiullah Lakho, Rizwan Mota, and Taju, as well as others engaged in organized criminal activities in Lyari.

Rangers said the accused was involved in multiple shootouts with police and cases of kidnapping for ransom before going into hiding during the Karachi operation.

The arrested suspect has been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings, the spokesperson added.
