PTI leader slams govt over ‘false narrative’ of economic progress

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central leader and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has accused the federal government of misleading the public with false claims of economic progress, asserting that the Prime Minister’s foreign visits have failed to deliver any tangible benefits for the people.

In an interview with a private television channel, Raja said Pakistan’s economy remains stagnant, citing 29 percent youth unemployment and record-low investment levels last year.

“All the government’s claims have turned out to be false. No country develops when a gap is established between the people and institutions,” he remarked, adding that “the truth will be victorious.”

He underscored PTI’s commitment to constitutionalism and the rule of law, claiming a shift in public discourse. “Where there was silence six months ago, there is no silence today,” he said.

Raja urged political unity behind Sohail Afridi to implement provincial reforms and prevent instability. “There are many reforms that should be done in the province; things should move toward improvement. There is no reason for chaos to increase in the country,” he stated.

Condemning restrictions on meeting incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, Raja termed the move “contempt of court,” adding that new petitions would soon be filed.

Criticising Chief Justice Yahya Afridi’s one-year tenure, he said Pakistan had become the only country where the Supreme Court permitted the trial of civilians in military courts. “Earlier, Uganda was the only example, but even its Supreme Court abolished that practice,” he observed.

Raja also denounced the overturning of an eight-judge verdict on PTI’s reserved seats, calling it “the first instance where a just verdict was reversed in review,” which he said paved the way for the 27th Amendment.
