LAHORE: Six suspected dacoits were killed and seven others managed to flee during four separate police encounters in Lahore, police officials said on Tuesday.
The first encounter occurred in the Green Town area, where an under-custody suspect, Ali Asad, was shot dead by his accomplices during an identification round. According to the Crime Control Department (CCD), the team was taking the suspect for identification when his associates opened fire. Ali Asad sustained critical injuries and died while being taken to hospital, while the attackers escaped under the cover of darkness.
In Nishtar Town, two other suspects — identified as Wali Dad and Mohsin — were killed by their own accomplices’ firing during an exchange with police. Both men were wanted in several criminal cases, police said. Their bodies were moved to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
Another encounter took place near Ring Road in the Civil Lines area, where two dacoits, identified as Qaisar alias DC and Raza, were gunned down in a shootout with a CCD team led by In-charge Aslam. The suspects had been robbing citizens when the team arrived and were met with gunfire.
In a separate incident near Harbanspura Railway Crossing, one suspect, identified as Anas, was injured in a shootout and later died while being taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, in Ubaro, police said one dacoit was killed and three others escaped after firing at officers near Hasoodo Link Road. The identity of the deceased suspect was yet to be confirmed.
All bodies were shifted to hospitals for post-mortem examinations, while search operations are ongoing to arrest the remaining fugitives, officials added.
