NOSHKI: Two police officers were martyred on Wednesday after unidentified assailants opened fire on a patrol team near the Eastern Bypass in Balochistan’s Noshki district.
According to police officials, the officers were on routine patrol when they came under heavy gunfire from armed men. Both policemen sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot before reinforcements arrived.
The assailants fled immediately after the attack. Law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the perpetrators.
The bodies of the martyred officers were moved to the District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Officials said investigations are underway to determine the motive and identify those involved.
The incident marks the latest in a series of attacks targeting security personnel in Balochistan, where police and paramilitary forces have faced repeated assaults from militant and insurgent groups in recent months.
Authorities said security in Noshki and surrounding areas has been tightened following the attack.
