Two women set on fire by in-laws in separate incidents in Daska, Sialkot

SIALKOT: Two women were burned alive in separate incidents of domestic violence in Daska and Sialkot, Punjab, police said on Sunday. Both attacks were carried out by the victims’ husbands and in-laws, and cases have been registered in the respective police stations.

In the first incident in Daska’s Islam Nagar area, a woman was set on fire by her husband, Sufyan, and mother-in-law five months after her marriage. According to police, the suspects poured petrol on her and ignited it after an argument. The victim, who sustained severe burns, demanded justice from authorities. Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on her father’s complaint.

In a separate case in Sialkot, a woman was burned by her in-laws after she insisted on attending her brother’s Valima reception. Family members said she suffered burns on 80 percent of her body and was moved to a Lahore hospital in critical condition. Police in Nekapura have filed a case against her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law.

Authorities said investigations in both incidents are ongoing. The attacks follow a similar case in September in Dhamial, where a 50-year-old woman was set on fire by her brother-in-law after a domestic dispute. Police later arrested the suspect and registered a murder case.

City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani condemned the recurring incidents of violence against women, directing police to ensure strict action against the accused. He said crimes of this nature would not be tolerated and offenders would face the full force of the law.
