October 1 declared public holiday- Check details here

The district administration has declared October 1 a public holiday in observance of the Urs of revered Sufi poet and mystic Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Farid (R.A). The announcement, issued by Deputy Commissioner Khurram Pervez on Saturday, noted that all government offices in the district will remain closed on the day.

The notification clarified that the holiday will not affect ongoing board examinations, banks, or federal institutions, which will continue their regular schedules.

Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Farid (1845–1901), born in Chachran, Bahawalpur, was a prominent figure in the Chishti and Qadiri Sufi traditions. His Saraiki poetry, compiled in Diwan-e-Farid, explores themes of divine love, human compassion, and the beauty of nature, often expressed through the devotional Kafi form.

The annual Urs draws thousands of devotees from across Pakistan, who gather in Rahim Yar Khan and surrounding areas for spiritual gatherings, recitations, and devotional music, celebrating the saint’s legacy of love, tolerance, and harmony.
