President Zardari oversees new China-Pakistan MoUs in Urumqi

URUMQI: President Asif Ali Zardari witnessed the signing of three cooperation agreements between Chinese enterprises and Pakistani partners, further expanding bilateral collaboration in livestock, textiles and emergency response.

The accords included an MoU between Luoyang Modern Biotechnologies and the Government of Sindh to modernize Pakistan’s livestock sector, another between Beijing Asian Africa Longyue and ASM Services to build a modern textile industrial park, and a third between Sichuan Chuanxiao Fire Trucks Manufacturing Company and ASM Services for the supply and servicing of fire trucks and advanced emergency equipment.

“These MoUs will present fresh opportunities for cooperation between Pakistan and China in sectors that directly support Pakistan’s economic growth and public welfare,” President Zardari was quoted by PPP’s official statement as saying.

Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, and the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan joined the signing ceremony.

Earlier in his visit, on September 16 in Shanghai, President Zardari had also overseen the signing of three MoUs focused on agriculture, vocational education and environmental sustainability.

Those agreements included the development of a Controlled Agriculture Science and Education Park, the construction of Shennong College to train farmers in modern technology, and a tire recycling project.

The signatories involved leading Chinese companies, such as Shanghai Huawei Agritech Group, Longping High-Tech Information Technology, Beijing Jialong Technology, and Maritime Silk Road Holdings (Qingdao), along with Pakistani partners, Meskay & Femtee Trading Co. and ASM Services.

President Asif Ali Zardari is on an official visit to China from Sept. 12 to 21 at the invitation of the Chinese government.
