Imran Khan declines to reveal social media handlers, cites abduction fears

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has refused to disclose the identities of those managing his social media accounts, telling investigators that revealing their names would put them at risk of being “kidnapped,” sources told Geo News.

Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023, was questioned inside Adiala Jail by a three-member team of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) led by Additional Director Ayaz Khan. The inquiry focused on the operation of his X and other social media platforms.

According to people familiar with the exchange, Khan grew agitated when pressed and accused the lead investigator of bias, recalling past cases filed against him. “I don’t even want to see Ayaz Khan, his conscience is dead,” he reportedly said.

The team asked whether foreign nationals or agencies were involved in handling his accounts, including Jibran Ilyas, the CIA, RAW, or Mossad. Khan denied the allegations, responding: “My accounts are not run by Jibran Ilyas. Jibran Ilyas is the most patriotic \[…] and you know who is with Mossad.”

When questioned about how his messages leave the prison, Khan said there was no courier system. He explained that during limited meetings, he shares his statements, which are later passed on to the social media team. He also dismissed the suggestion that his sister Aleema Khan was involved, saying: “Aleema has nothing to do with politics.”

Khan rejected claims that his online activity was intended to incite unrest, insisting his posts focused on criticism of government operations in the tribal districts. “For 20 years I have warned against becoming part of other powers’ wars,” he said, adding that party leaders often repost his statements because they fear repercussions if they publish their own views.
