- Minister’s visit aims at boosting trade, investment and commercial cooperation
TEHRAN/ISLAMABAD: Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Sunday arrived in Tehran to lead the 22nd Session of the Pakistan–Iran Joint Economic Commission (JEC) and co-chair the Pakistan–Iran Joint Business Forum (JBF), according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce.
The statement said the three-day visit aimed at giving fresh momentum to bilateral trade and investment ties.
It said that Jam Kamal is expected to preside over the Joint Economic Commission and the Business Forum during his stay, besides holding meetings with senior Iranian ministers and officials to strengthen economic cooperation. He was received at Imam Khomeini International Airport by Amin Tarfa’a, Advisor to Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
The visit is expected to inject new energy into Pakistan-Iran commercial relations by advancing ongoing initiatives through structured dialogue and business-to-business engagement.
The push for enhanced trade comes in the backdrop of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan in August, during which 12 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed. The accords covered areas including plant protection and quarantine, joint use of the Mirjaveh–Taftan border gate, collaboration in science, technology and innovation, and cooperation in information and communications technology, according to Radio Pakistan.
During that visit, both sides also held wide-ranging talks on their bilateral relationship, encompassing political, economic, cultural, and religious dimensions, with an emphasis on expanding future cooperation.
