President Zardari arrives in China on 10-day official visit

BEIJING: President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Chengdu on Friday to begin a 10-day official visit to China. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and China, with a focus on matters like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Upon arrival at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, President Zardari was warmly received by Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Vice Governor of Sichuan Province Huang Ruixue. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, along with the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, were also present at the airport to welcome the president.

During his visit, President Zardari will hold meetings with Chinese leadership and senior officials. The discussions will primarily focus on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, advancing shared objectives, and strengthening the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries.

The visit will also see President Zardari engaging with provincial leadership in Chengdu, Shanghai, and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The agenda will cover a range of topics, with a special emphasis on economic and trade cooperation, as well as the future of CPEC and regional connectivity.

The Foreign Office highlighted that this visit continues the tradition of high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China. It reaffirms both nations’ commitment to supporting each other on issues of core interests, furthering economic and trade cooperation, and promoting regional peace and stability.
