- Bahraini telephones Pakistani counterpart, offers condolences over losses caused by floods
- Lt-Gen Rashid Al Khalifa assures Naqvi of Bahrain’s full solidarity and assistance
ISLAMABAD: Bahrain’s Interior Minister, Lieutenant General Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, on Sunday extended solidarity and sympathy to Pakistan over the loss of lives and destruction caused by recent torrential rains and floods, assuring that the Kingdom stands “shoulder to shoulder” with its Pakistani brethren in this difficult time, according to Radio Pakistan.
During a telephone call with his Pakistani counterpart, Mohsin Naqvi, the Bahraini minister expressed grief over the tragic deaths and widespread devastation, conveying heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He said Bahrain was ready to provide every possible assistance to help the flood victims, Radio Pakistan reported.
Interior Minister Naqvi thanked his Bahraini counterpart for the gesture of support, noting that Pakistan was facing a climate-induced humanitarian crisis. “Pakistan is one of the countries most severely affected by climate change, and the devastation brought by floods, heavy rains and sudden cloudbursts cannot be adequately described,” he remarked.
Both leaders reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen bilateral cooperation and assist one another in times of need, with Bahrain pledging to contribute to Pakistan’s ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected communities.
Pakistan is ranked among the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, having suffered catastrophic floods in 2022 that displaced millions and caused billions of dollars in economic losses. This year’s renewed spells of monsoon flooding and cloudbursts have once again underscored the scale of the threat, prompting international expressions of solidarity such as that from Bahrain.
