China introduces new K visa for Pakistani graduates

BEIJING: China has unveiled a new visa category, the K visa, aimed at attracting science and technology graduates from around the world, including Pakistan. This move is seen as a significant opportunity for young Pakistani professionals seeking careers in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The State Council of China approved the new policy, with Premier Li Qiang signing the decree to implement it from October 1, 2025.

With thousands of Pakistani students currently studying in China, particularly in fields such as engineering, information technology, and applied sciences, the K visa provides a direct pathway for them to stay longer and contribute to global science and technology initiatives.

Pakistani graduates will now be able to engage in scientific research and academic exchanges in China, access entrepreneurial and business opportunities, and enjoy longer stays, multiple entries, with simplified visa processes.

Unlike other Chinese visas, the K visa does not require an invitation letter from an employer or institution in China. Additionally, there are no restrictions based on age, education level, or work experience.

Chinese authorities have stated that this new visa policy is part of a broader national strategy to enhance China’s scientific and technological talent pool through international collaboration. For Pakistan, this initiative could further strengthen bilateral ties in education, research, and technology while providing fresh opportunities for the country’s youth.
