Karachi schools closed tomorrow due to heavy rains

KARACHI: All public and private schools in Karachi will remain closed on Wednesday following torrential rains that have caused widespread urban flooding across the city, as announced by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that the next two days will be critical, with more rainfall expected to hit the city, continuing the disruption caused by the current weather system.

With several key roads submerged, many children are stranded as they attempt to return home, causing distress for both students and their families. Major routes such as Sharea Faisal and University Road remain impassable due to flooding, while inner-city roads are also submerged in water, with some areas experiencing water levels rising several feet.

The heavy downpour has paralysed Karachi, submerging major roads, causing businesses to close, and leaving several areas without power. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel as the situation worsens. Many people, including those returning from work and school, are stranded in flooded areas, particularly in Malir, mirroring the devastating effects of the 2022 rains.
