LAHORE: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has officially declared its intention to contest the by-election for the National Assembly seat NA-129, which became vacant following the death of senior politician Mian Azhar.
PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari confirmed the party’s participation in the by-election during a phone conversation with Dunya News, stating that there is no agreement with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) preventing PPP from entering the race. This comes amid rumors of behind-the-scenes seat adjustments, which Bukhari quickly dismissed.
“There’s no deal with PML-N that stops us from entering the race,” Bukhari affirmed, making it clear that PPP will not sit out this critical electoral contest.
While PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is currently abroad, Bukhari said consultations would be held with him to finalize the next steps. “After discussing the matter with Bilawal, we’ll soon announce the date for accepting applications from potential candidates,” he added.
In the 2018 general elections, PPP’s candidate, Aurangzeb Burki, contested from NA-129 but lost to Mian Azhar. However, with this by-election, the party is determined to mount a strong challenge, signaling that they are prepared to put up a formidable fight for the seat.
