Elderly man murders granddaughter over forced marriage dispute

In a tragic incident, an 80-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 25-year-old granddaughter to death in Badin district over a dispute related to her forced marriage. The victim, Fehmida Abro, had previously married a man of her choice but was forced by her family and community elders to annul the marriage. She was then remarried to a cousin against her will.

Fehmida had left her cousin-husband’s home and returned to live with her parents in village Adam Abro just days before the murder. The elderly grandfather, Adam Abro, reportedly became enraged by her decision to leave her forced marriage and allegedly killed her in an act of retaliation.

The police suspect that other family members may have been involved in the crime, but investigations are still in the early stages. The victim’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and the FIR for the incident had not been registered by evening.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges related to forced marriages and violence against women in some areas of Pakistan.
